LIGHTS e.V. welcomes you

LIGHTS e.V. is a young, German, non-profit support association with dedicated members between the ages of 21 and 27. About half of our members have already spent several weeks or months in Uganda, living there and working on various social projects. During this time, we all had the opportunity to get to know the LIGHTS Masaka Foundation. Together, we founded the support association of the Ugandan organization LIGHTS-MASAKA-FOUNDATION.

Club weekend 2021
In 2021, we met again as an association and discussed the association's next steps in Germany and Uganda with Julius Lule.
It was a very successful weekend – not only in terms of club development, but also in terms of team and community strength.

How it all began

2018

Julius Lule and Jessica Gohlke are at the heart of the connection between LIGHTS-Uganda and its associated support association, LIGHTS e.V. The couple met in 2017. Motivated by their Christian faith, they decided to expand their private initiative and turn it into a larger project in order to help as many children and young people as possible. Together, they initiated the registration of the foundation and the establishment of the German support association.

Since 2022, they have lived in Freiburg with their son and visit the project regularly.

Get it into the right shape

In 2019, the association was registered as LIGHTS eV and granted non-profit status. Alessia has been our treasurer since the beginning. She holds a degree in banking and works as a consultant for an insurance company. At LIGHTS eV, she is responsible for administration.

Get started together

When Caro (left) worked in Uganda for six months, she was enthusiastic about the project and the children. She spent many weekends with Julius and Jessica (right) at the children's home and accompanied them on their visits to the street children. This time was not only the beginning of a wonderful friendship, but also the starting point for the courageous next step.
During the Ugandan rainy season, Caro and Jessica jointly wrote the statutes for the LIGHTS eV support association in Germany and built the website. At the same time, Julius Lule registered LIGHTS-Uganda as a non-profit organization in the Ugandan register of associations.
